MLM Ethics: Industry Standards That You Should Know!

by Robert Blackman

It's incredible that this subject should even justify an article. But, in all reality the MLM industry has had its hard knocks. There have been a lot of bad people get into a good industry and messed things up for us good guys.

Here's a quick list of what you should and shouldn't do:

1). Never contact anyone besides your personally sponsored people about another MLM program or business opportunity. You spent your hard earned money and time recruiting your front line people. Yes, you have the right to contact them about anything you think they might be interested in and that you both can make money at. But, just like you, your front line people spent their time and money on their recruits and so on down to your last level. The last thing your front line people want to hear about is that you're trying to recruit their front line! You wouldn't want your upline contacting your front line about another opportunity, would YOU?

My approach is simple. I believe that I have the right to make money in as many MLM programs as I want to. But, I have found that the best way to go about doing this is to START OVER. In other words, leave your group in company A alone. Go out and sponsor NEW people into program B, don't mess with your front line in program A because you might confuse them--especially if they aren't making money in your first program.

If you're dead set on joining another program, your best bet is to join a program that compliment your main program. Like a lead program, discount long distance or a fax-on-demand or voice mail service company. That way you can be making TWO checks from one downline--and you're doing it ethically!

2). Don't over promise or tell half-truths. You know what I mean. A prospect asks a direct question--usually about how to make money--and you give a indirect answer. Those days are gone folks. The general public is not going to go for half the truth or half the facts. Today s opportunity seeker is more informed and knows from their fathers mistakes. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is!

All too often a networker will exaggerate income earnings. If you're doing that you need to stop. All you're doing is setting yourself up for failure. When your prospect joins they trusted what you said. If your opportunity turns out to be different than what you said they ll consider you a liar--no matter how much you try to justify what you really were trying to tell them--they THINK you've done them a disservice.

Instead of over-promising try the good old fashioned truth. Tell your prospect what your goals are and what you re doing to achieve them--give them a never say die attitude and they'll follow you to hell and back. But, if you mislead your group they will quit on you and FAST.

3). Use your common sense. The MLM industry is exactly like traditional business. The only difference in MLM and your job or your own company is in time compounding and residual income. Treat it like your child. Watch over it and make sure it is safe and sound. I also add money to it every month so its growth continues upward at a exponentially.

The bottom line is it's okay to be a super salesman--just be sure to tell the truth. What you'll find is that if you arm the right people with the right information your group will stay with you long enough for them to make money. And if your group is making money you're making LOTS of money!
