How to Make Your
Own Web Site

There used to be only one answer to the question of how to make your own web site: Have someone built it, for many thousands of dollars. Fortunately, now there are at least six ways to make your own web site. Let's explore each one:

Option 1: Have it built for you.
This is definitely the lowest-involvement, highest-cost method. Just like ordering anything custom-built, you specify what you want, and then pay a bunch of money, and hope that the designer/builder understands your preferences and builds it right.

If you have lots of cash, this is the best way to make your own web site. That's because you can have exactly what you want (at a price), and it takes the least amount of your time. Because HomeIncomeCoach is all about how you can make more money, and not about how to spend more money, what do you say we explore the other options?

Option 2: Use a free site.
This is the opposite of the custom approach: You pay nothing, and you get a web site. Before you sit up, point your finger at your computer monitor, and say "That's what I want!", it's not a great option.

You'll get a garbage site. It will be filled with advertisements you have no control over. It will have a bad domain like: "www.geocities.com/buildit/ freesites/ x4159smith/index.html", or some such memorable name. You will get little or no support for your questions. And if, by some wild stroke of luck you make it work, as soon as you get decent traffic, they will start charging you for "excess usage".

You get what you pay for, so don't plan on paying nothing.

Option 3: Use a canned site from a company like an MLM.
We've talked about this option on other pages. It is not a good option for how to make your own web site. That's because the stamped-out, cloned site they give you (even with your own name and contact information on it) will simply not be found by web surfers, because the search engines will rank you somewhere past Pluto.

Here's one minor exception: Keep the cookie-cutter site to send people to once they've contacted you by other means, and when you want to send them there to view a fancy video clip, or some other multimedia presentation. That's a fine use for the web site.

Option 4: Use "Hobby Turnkey" sites like Homestead.com.
We call these "hobby turnkey" because if you want to make your own web site to show off your award-winning petunias, then they're quite adequate. Their calling card is that they are idiot-simple to use, and you can make your own web site within 30 minutes.

You've seen these types of sites: Shimmery blue backgrounds, with funky typefaces, and lots of bright colors. They also contain dozens of different styles of visitor counters, "donate to this charity" buttons, etc. We suppose they serve the hobbyist market okay. But they are NOT the impression you want to give prospective customers.

Your future customers are looking for answers to their questions and needs, and they want the direct route to that information. You need a different way to make your own web site than these solutions can provide.

Option 5: Build it using a "Business Turnkey" system.
This is probably your best bet in terms of how to make your own web site. These systems are geared toward ranking high on search engines, and showcasing your products and services. You need the following: flexibility to build what you need; good support when you have questions; a powerful set of tools to allow you to design a nice site without you having to worry about the technical aspects.

That last point is key: The more time you spend messing with graphics, linking pages, and submitting them to search engines, the less time you are spending on finding clients, talking to them, keeping them, and making a substantial home income.

We know of an excellent service that lets you make your own web site, and allows the flexibility and power to make your site highly professional with very modest expense of time and money. We strongly recommend this service for many people.

Option 6: Build it "a la carte".
This last option is not a bad way to make your own web site; it's just more time consuming. If you are rather familiar with computers, and don't mind tying several tools together, you can make your own web site with the maximum flexibility possible. There are some excellent tools out there for optimizing your web pages to rank highly on the search engines; for linking your products to a shopping cart; for doing sophisticated split-testing of web pages to see which one attracts more customers; etc.

This option involves mixing and matching those tools to get just the site you want. The cost is at or a bit below what you'll pay for Option 5, but your time commitment will be substantially higher.

All the details on this option are way too long to be appropriate for this web page. If you are interested in this "hands on" approach to how to make your own web site, then contact us, and we'll be happy to discuss it with you.
