Internet Home Businesses:
How To Find The Good Ones

Scams

Let's first talk about the scams, because they are such visible internet home businesses. In fact, they're so visible, that they will usually find you. All you have to do is get an email address, and pretty soon someone has sold your name to spammers. In addition to all the X-rated email, you'll get a flood of offers to "Get Paid to Shop Online!" or "Make Good Money Answering Surveys From Home!", etc.

These are garbage. Let's think about this logically: If it was so easy to make hundreds of dollars weekly sitting at your computer and clicking away, then we could pretty quickly end hunger. We'd all just be on there making money with these systems. These outfits would not have to advertise their internet home businesses by spamming. Instead, we would see their success stories on the front page of our newspapers, and all rush to sign up.

These bogus internet home businesses have a couple of main approaches: They either make money by charging you some fee to become part of their "amazing" opportunity; or they use you for cannon fodder. What do we mean by that? They get paid for your clicks.

You see, many advertisers pay good money to have search engines send them customers. They pay the search engines every time someone who's searching for, say, "cosmetics" clicks on their ad, and goes to their cosmetics site. So what the scams do is try to recruit the largest number of people they can to click away, read ads, and download software. Mind you, this is not because those people are interested in the product. They're paid a penny here and there for a click, so they click.

Of course, eventually the advertisers realize they're getting tons of clicks to their sites, but not many actual buyers. By that point, the con artists have moved on to pitch other advertisers. This is just another fake way of generating traffic.

We suggest you stay away from these "get rich quick" internet home businesses, or the "get rich easy" ones. If you're scratching your head, wondering why a business would pay you good money for such activities, do yourself a favor--make one more click and leave their site.

Affiliates
Enough about the bogus internet home businesses....What are some good ones?

Here's one: If you see a product online that you already like and use, check whether there is a link at the bottom for "Affiliates" or "Partners". If there is, the merchant will pay you for referring other people to that site.

This is a great way to create an income stream: You already like the product, and bought it yourself. So unlike the fake "stay at home and click" business, this product you like makes sense. Also, you're enthusiastic about it. That means you have two important pieces of the income puzzle already figured out (quality and enthusiasm).

What you should do is check for an "Affiliates" or "Partners" link, and read their policies about signing up. They will tell you how much you can earn; how often you are paid; and many other details about the arrangement.

Think of it this way: You already probably tell your friends about products and services you like. Why not get paid to do so? You can tell your friends that you do make a little money if they sign up; you can also tell them that they can make money the same way. You're not pressuring them; you are simply making them aware of a good product or service.

You might choose to promote these products and services from your home, through email contacts or a website, but you can also promote them offline. Get some business cards printed that you can leave around town (post office, restaurant table after you pay the check, etc.), and that you can include with bills you pay. If the product or service you like is really good, then even these simple promotional methods can really pay off over time.

Will you make a fortune from one product? Unlikely. But there's nothing stopping you from signing up to be an affiliate with several companies, and potentially making a very nice home income from your collective efforts.

Ebay
One of the best internet home businesses is Ebay. Here's why:

  • It requires very little money to get started;
  • it's not hard to learn to put things up for sale; and
  • You can have traffic (shoppers) looking at your stuff within 15 minutes.
  • It really takes the burden of technology off your shoulders, and allows you to focus on selling.

We can hear some thoughts rattling around in your head: "What if I don't know anything about Ebay....What if I'm no good with computers....What if I don't have much to sell..."

If you're stricken with the "What if" disease, then you need to click here to go to our page that discusses Ebay in more detail. You'll find that Ebay is one of the most straightforward internet home businesses you can start.

Setting up your own website
We put this option last, because we suggest that you first fully explore the opportunities above. There is no question that having your own website gives you maximum freedom to sell your own and others' products and services. But it also takes more time to set up than the internet home businesses above. Click here to explore the options that internet home businesses have in setting up their own websites.
