Six Myths About Earning Money
From Home
If you have been thinking about earning money from home, you probably
have discussed the idea with family or friends. There is little doubt
that these people had strong opinions to share with you. If those
words consisted of encouragement and support, then you have a great
set of friends and family.
Unfortunately, what you might have heard are all the reasons why
you are crazy to try earning money from home: how they tried years
ago and it was a waste of time; how they are all scams; and how
Cousin Ralph tried it and look how he turned out.
So, before we get too deeply into the specifics of earning money
from home, let's look at six common myths about it:
Myth #1: "Earning money
from home is so easy!"
Plenty of promoters out there want your money, and they are willing
to tell you anything in order to get it. They make it sound like
they have the Magic Pill: Pop it in your mouth, and you make a fortune.
Of course, that's nonsense. By the time you find out it's nonsense,
they have your cash and are long gone, onto the next sucker.
The truth is, earning money from home is not impossible, and it's
not easy. It's doable. And it can be a great living if you
get involved with systems that have been proven to work. Much more
on that later. But to address this "easy" myth fully, let's look
at the next myth:
Myth #2: "Earning money
from home is impossible, or else every clown would stay at home
and be a millionaire."
"Working from home" still involves work. No doubt about it. Some
people dabble in a home business and then give up at the first sign
of difficulty. They console themselves by saying it was "impossible";
but there are many thousands of successful home businesses to prove
that wrong. It's more likely that those who failed got lured into
a half-baked plan; or they didn't follow the steps of a good plan.
Keep in mind that the early period of a new venture
is always the most daunting: You have nothing yet to show for your
hard work, and have many more doubts than customers. The same is
true with farmers. Yet they understand that if they follow the right
procedures, and mix their work, knowledge, and time in the right
proportions, the crop does indeed grow. You'd never know it from
looking at the bare field a few weeks after planting, but the crop
is on its way.

knowledge part. You provide the work, and the patience over time.
Then you get to stand back and admire the fruits of your labor,
as you harvest its bounty.
Myth #3: "Home based
businesses are largely pyramid schemes."
It's true that at one time, certain get-rich-quick schemes flourished.
They simply took money from one group of investors, and paid it
to other investors, while stating that the payments were "income"
from the enterprise. As with most scams, these ones caught up with
their promoters. Fortunately, laws were then enacted to prevent
such schemes from flourishing again (and to punish those who try).
Does that mean that all deals out there are legitimate?
Of course not. Crooks are endlessly creative. That's true in any
field: medicine, law, politics, and of course, business. But there
are proven ways to separate the shady deals from the legitimate
ones. We show you how, later.
Myth #4: "Anyone can
do it."
Just about anyone can do it. But not everyone will
do it. Earning money from home does not take physical strength,
or rocket-scientist brains. It doesn't take lots of money, or a
full-time effort. But of course many people won't want to invest
even the basic time and skills required. They've been brainwashed
by the commercials that promise that "Magic Pill" instant wealth.
Consider diets. Can just about anyone lose weight?
Sure. Does it take a superhuman effort to lose weight? No. Do some
people succeed spectacularly, others do OK, and many others sit
on the couch and continue to eat potato chips? You bet. It comes
down to knowledge, motivation, and time.
The same is true with earning money from home.
Myth #5: "You need to
raise money to start a business, so I'm sunk."
Many years ago, it was true that most businesses revolved around
the "Agricultural Revolution" and then the "Industrial Revolution".
It cost big money to have a farm or a factory. But we are in the
Information Revolution now, and the playing field has never been
so level.
The Internet, cheap phone connections, and globally
accepted credit cards have truly made it possible to have a customer
on the other side of the earth, as easily as you could have one
next door. That is not an exaggeration. And the costs to get set
up? Typically a few hundred dollars--rarely more, and quite often
less. No farms or factories or inventory to buy here.
Myth #6: "I didn't go
to business school. I barely even finished high school, and that
was years ago. I'm sunk compared to these whiz kids."
Yeah well, the Whiz Kids were the ones whose dot com's blew up,
while lots of less glamorous companies survived and continue to
do quite nicely, far from the headlines.
Sure, if you want to launch some grand design to corner the computer
game market, you're going to need some serious money and brains.
(And even then you'll probably fail.)
But if your goal is to make some nice cash, growing from a trickle,
to three digits, then four digits and five digits a month--that
can be within your reach.
Now let's look at the biggest variable, the biggest unknown factor,
in this whole matter of earning money from home...
