Can You
Make Money If You
Assemble Products At Home?
There are many companies seemingly eager to have you assemble products at home. Here is one such promotion we came across: "Easy work! Excellent pay! Be your own boss...assemble beaded accessories and earn up to $350 weekly! No experience necessary!"
Of course, if you could be your own boss, assemble products at home and make a nice home income from filling odd moments in your day, life would be great.
Unfortunately, if you visit the Better Business Bureau site, or the Postal Inspector's site, you will find that home assembly jobs are a well-known fraud. Many such outfits ask you for money up front for a "Get Started Kit"; and the ones that say "Send no money! Call now!" simply want to get you on the phone to work you over, and extract money more forcefully.
The scam revolves around you "investing" tens or hundreds of dollars for instruction manuals, videotapes, or supplies. Even when they assure you that they will buy all the products you can assemble, they often reject your work because it "did not meet our standards", or some such excuse.
When you think about it, why would a company build relationships with thousands of assemblers in thousands of different locations, when they can get the work done for rock-bottom prices in China by dealing with one supplier?
They don't want you to assemble products at home for them; they just want your up-front fee. Then you will have a terrible time reaching them, never mind getting your money back. Most people will give up in frustration, and the "assemble products at home" promoters will be on to new customers to cheat.
There are legitimate "cottage industries" everywhere...small businesses that need extra help to assemble products. But you should only deal with a local business you can look at, whose employees you can freely talk to, and which is well established in your community. That's a good way to assemble products at home (or close to home), and make money. All the other deals are only money-making opportunities for the crooks.
